A debt consolidation loan will not necessarily free up your credit. There are no instant fixes for a poor credit rating. The only things that can fix or free up your credit are hard work, strategic use of credit, and careful spending. You cannot expect one company or one service to permanently fix all of your credit issues. This is because fixing credit is many fold issue. In order to fix your credit you must eliminate all of your bad debts from being listed on your credit report by either paying them off, having them removed, or by declaring bankruptcy. Bankruptcy and paying them off are the only permanent ways to remove the debts from your report. If a credit repair company removes entries on your credit report, then they can return in the future when the creditors re-report the matter. If you pay off your own debts, then your credit will be freed up. But, if you allow a debt consolidation company to pay off your debts, then your credit will not be freed up. Your consolidation will be reported on your credit report, and you will then owe the credit assistance company the money that they used to pay off your debts. A bankruptcy will stay on credit report as well for a number of years, so even though your debts are no longer your responsibility, you credit will still not be in the best condition. Once you do debt consolidation, the best thing to do is to get your credit back in shape. You can do this by rebuilding credit with a company that does that for you. Many companies issue secured credit cards in low amounts like $50 or $100. You have to pay for these cards in order to receive them. Then when you use the cards to shop, the credit card company reports to credit bureaus as often as possible so that the bureaus will report all of these timely payments on your credit report. Timely repayment is the best way to improve the looks of your credit report. Debt consolidation will not help your credit or free up your credit on its own. In fact the first thing that will happen is a blemish on your credit. But in the long run if you make the right choices, your credit will improve.
